It’s so easy to feel disappointed in this life. Things don’t turn out the way I expect, people often disappoint me, and sometimes MY plans don’t work out. In times like this, it’s harder to trust your plan. When everything is moving in the direction I desire, trust is easy. But when things feel upside down and completely out of my control, my faith is tested.
I have a choice to make. Will I still trust you when things don’t feel good? Or will I define you based on what I think is good? Will I determine if you are who you say you are solely based on my present circumstance? If things don’t feel good, will I then believe you are not good? Or will I believe in your infinite love, wisdom, power and goodness?
The truth is, you are good ALL THE TIME. You are not less good to me during a job loss, an illness, grief, or during any other times life can disappoint than you were when you hung on a cross in my place. God, you are perfectly good.
Help me, Lord, to trust in you more – not just when things go the way I think they should, but also when they don’t. Help me to remember that you are good, always. When things here feel disappointing, may I be reminded that you are all I need. You are my source for peace and comfort for my restless heart. You are a sovereign God and you are so good. Captivate my heart and turn my disappointments into praise. Saturate my thoughts with gratitude for your love for me.
Thank you for being the same yesterday, today and forever. When your will doesn’t match my will, help me to seek your face and be reassured and reminded of your constant love and goodness.
