I watched my church’s Good Friday service online tonight. I’m struggling to find the words for how I feel now. Moved doesn’t cut it. Reverent, maybe? That doesn’t feel quite the right word either though.
I think it’s a sensation of Holiness mixed with in with the heaviness of Friday. I feel profound sadness thinking about the torture and crucifixion of Jesus mixed with overwhelming awe of His sacrifice. I feel grief. The painful ache in my heart tonight feels familiar.
It’s sorrow. That’s the word I’m feeling. Sorrow.
“It is finished.”
First the Friday, THEN Sunday.
First the grief, then joy.
Suffering before healing.
Captivity before release.
Weeping before laughter.
Loss before victory.
Death before rising.
Because of God’s love for us, because of Christ’s suffering and sacrifice, we aren’t trapped in Friday forever. I know it feels like it. Oh, how I know it can feel like it, but Sunday is coming.
But first, Friday.
Holding you all tight while we’re in the Friday part together.
“He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.” – 1 Peter 2:24
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in hi should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” – John 3:16-17
“For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his.” – Romans 6:5
Sunday is coming.
Extra grace,
Jodi
“we aren’t trapped in Friday, forever.” Thank you for that. God bless you and keep you in this Holy Week which is especially tough for you and your family. He is risen, indeed!
Very well said
Thank you . I needed that today.
Hi Jodi,
Thinking of you and hope you can find some joy this weekend, maybe on Sunday if not before. I think of you often.
Jesse’s family is home, we went to the Public Library Easter egg hung, crafts, story and prizes also cookies and lemonade for the kids. Savannah was drawn for an Easter basket and Ivan got a water bottle, plus eggs filled with treats. We are having our Easter supper tonight, buys church morning 8-12:00 tomorrow. Gotta go, take care.
Love you Jodi,
Karen
