Git ‘Er Done

January 31, 2018

I am a master list maker. I always have been. Just ask my brother and sister how I used to make lists of the chores they should do. (My list was shorter. Advantage: Oldest). I’m still making lists. Errands I need to run, cleaning to-do’s, paperwork that needs to be addressed, ideas and thoughts I have regarding work, grocery lists, things to add to the calendar, etc. They all get a list. I have to get things out of my head and on paper – go figure. Basically, I’m really awesome at making lists.

What I’m NOT great at is follow through. I have page after page in my notebooks filled with lists. I’m lucky if I get two to three items checked off every day. As overwhelming as a long list is, it’s worse living inside my head. That’s why I dump it all on paper.

Last week I shared with you my fears about scheduling Dr. appointments. Well, it finally moved off my to-do list. I did it! I scheduled three appointments! I almost hung up several times while on hold though. The appointments are made and now all I have to do is show up.

I also joined Weight Watchers this week. Pretty sure I’ve been eating all my sad and anxious, and that jig is up. Plus, Oprah said I can still eat bread, so I’m down with that. I’m on day three and so far, so good. I do think it would be easier if I just went to bed at 7 p.m. though. Why are evenings so munchy?! And when you are craving chocolate, the cucumbers you carefully sliced for a healthy choice just don’t cut it. I’ll let you know if I find a good chocolate replacement for when nothing else will do. I did find a long lost box of frozen Thin Mints and decided two cookies wasn’t worth four points, so that was a victory. I still want to eat the whole sleeve of them though. Taking care of myself was another task moved off my to-do list. I’m actively doing something instead of just writing it down. What’s on your to-do list lately? Are you overwhelmed by your list? Are you too afraid or just too overwhelmed to take action to move it from a to-do to a completed? I understand that! Every day I live that. It feels good to check it off though. There’s something satisfying and esteem boosting about putting a checkmark next to a task. Pick just one today, will you? If I can make that darn doctor appointment, I know you can do it too. Just one thing. I’m pulling for you!

I have a practice checklist for you to get you primed for your own lists. I challenge you to check off all three today.

I can’t wait to get together with all of you tomorrow night on Facebook. I’ve received dozens of really beautiful, thoughtful, and some really fun questions and I’m so excited to answer them. If you can’t make the LIVE event, the video will be available on Facebook after the event as well. I hope to see you there!

Extra grace,

Jodi

    Jodi,
I started WW (again) on 1/16. I had a great first week but then got sick mid way through week 2…lots of chicken soup requires lots of crackers….and then it just kind of fell apart from there. But I am still down 5.2lbs from when I started. If I could just kick this lousy virus and start to feel like moving again, the scale probably would too! Are you going to the WW meetings or doing the online only program? I am online only.

Wishing you (and me….and Oprah) great success!

Jodi I am so very proud of you for making those appointments! Kudos! I also make lists, it is my road map for the day and I try to do as much as I can, what doesn’t get done is moved to another day. Lists are so helpful for me and as I age memory isn’t what it use to be. Have a wonderful week, hope to join your live feed. Love you friend, Karen

As far as eating in the evening, it is a habit. Growing up we ate supper at 5:30 and never had anything to eat after that, therefore I cannot eat after supper or I can’t sleep. My cousins and my husband, however, ate chips, popcorn, in the evenings, and 50 years later still do. Husband says he can’t go to sleep without eating. If you have that habit, just eat healthy stuff in the evening, don’t change the habit. It is how you are made.

I can totally relate to the list making! I even have several list notebooks going at once! Great job on making those doctor appointments! Please follow through with them!! I am so proud of you for joining WW! I started it 2 years ago and have kept up with it through out my “grief journey.” My husband died when I was about 4 months into it but it suddenly became like a therapy group for me in a strange way. My leader found out what I was going through and was extremely helpful. It’s a great program and keeps me focused most of the time! And I get ya on the chocolate versus cucumbers! Try the chocolate caramel mini bars for 2 points. They are delicious!

You are my hero…..I too am an expert at list making…..but the beauty is….what I am able to check off at days end, I remind myself that what was accomplished was in God’s will for me for that day. I also want to share the acronym for fear:
    F….false
    E….evidence
    A….appearing
    R….real
    Hang in and hang on!

Love this acronym! May I borrow it? I’m thinking you won’t make nd so thanks in advance, Beth! 😊👍🏼

Hi! I am a list maker. Usually I write more chores down than I can handle in one day. Because I have fibromyalgia, it is better if I list the accomplishments so not to get discouraged.

I love your posts. You are so encouraging and helpful.

Please keep up your good work.

    May God Bless you.

    Lovingly,
    Connie Schrier
